Who Is Allegro Community Music School?

“I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for in the patterns of music and all the arts are the keys of learning.” Plato

The Allegro Community Music School was founded in 2004 under the name “Briar Patch Kids School of Music” as a family business, under the direction of Cyndi Romero, Executive Director.   With fellow music instructor, Lachelle Yoder, the school was opened as an early childhood music program, offering Kindermusik classes by renting local dance facilities and bookstores by the hour.  The need for a single location became apparent quickly, and by September of that same year, the Nokesville location was opened.

The new location opened doors for program expansion as well.  Additional instructors were hired, private lessons in guitar, violin, voice, and piano were offered, and within the first year of business, the school received the “Maestro” award from Kindermusik International, for ranking in the top ten percent of Kindermusik programs worldwide for size and scope of programs.

Inspired by the principle combinations of excellence and outreach exhibited in the non-profit

National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, and the desire to reach more students, Briar

Patch Kids joined the Guild, changed its name to Allegro Community Music School, and began

the process of becoming a non-profit music school.

Today, the Allegro Community Music School is a thriving community music school, having offered quality musical instruction to over 300 students since opening its doors only two years ago, with an ever-expanding list of exciting instrumental programs, ensembles, music enrichment classes, recitals, and camps.  Allegro has opened a new, expansive facility in centrally located Vint Hill with four times the classroom space, and more programs available than ever.
