Private Instruction Attendance and Make-up Policies
Regular attendance is expected of all students. Missed lessons due to Instructor absence or unscheduled school closing will be made up at a time mutually convenient to the Instructor and student. Lessons missed due to student cancellation may be made up at the discretion of the Instructor, limited to one make-up lesson for this cause per semester (two quarters). All arrangements for make-up lessons will be made directly with the instructor.
Snow Days and Emergency School Closings
Allegro Community Music School does not follow a particular school system’s closure policy for inclement weather. Notice of Allegro’s scheduling response to inclement weather will be posted on the Allegro website, recorded on the outgoing message for the administrative office phone, and will be reported to the WTOP radio station.
Private/Group Instruction Student Responsibilities
Instruments and Materials: Each student is responsible for providing an Allegro Educator-approved instrument of study. Please contact the Allegro Office for local rental resources or for suggestions in purchasing instruments. Additional materials (workbooks in theory, technique, or note-reading, etc.) may be suggested for each student, as the instructor provides individual assessment. Supplemental performance materials are highly encouraged for student interest. Contact the student’s teacher or the Allegro office for suggestions.
Piano/Keyboard Instrument Requirements: The piano faculty strongly recommends that every Allegro piano student have regular access to a standard and well-maintained acoustic piano. If families of beginning piano students already own a digital piano, and are unable to afford an acoustic piano, their digital piano should have 88 keys with graded action to reproduce key weight and dynamic range of an acoustic piano, and the piano keyboard should have an ample stand to allow a proper sitting position and have a functional damper pedal.
Practice: Regular practice time is absolutely essential to the growth and development of each musician. Appropriate practice goals will be determined by each Allegro Educator at the time of enrollment based on the age and experience of the student. For younger students, parental involvement in the daily practice routines of the students is crucial.
Lesson times: In order to make the most of each lesson, students should arrive to the school at least 5 minutes prior to the scheduled lesson time.
